Packing for a safari is an art form. You need to be prepared for chilly mornings, scorching afternoons, and dusty trails. Here is what you shouldn’t leave behind:

1. The “Safari Suitcase” (Clothing)

  • Neutral Tones: Stick to khaki, beige, or olive. Avoid bright whites (they get dusty) and dark blues/blacks (which attract Tsetse flies).

  • Layers are Key: A heavy fleece or light down jacket for 6:00 AM game drives, and breathable cotton shirts for the midday heat.

  • Comfortable Shoes: Sturdy sneakers or light hiking boots; you don’t need heavy boots unless you’re doing a walking safari.

2. The Tech & Gear

  • Binoculars: A high-quality pair of 8×42 binoculars is essential for spotting leopards in distant trees.

  • Camera with Zoom: A lens of at least 200mm–300mm is recommended to capture those stunning close-ups.

  • Power Bank: To keep your phone charged during long days in the bush.

3. Health & Sun Protection

  • The “Bush Hat”: A wide-brimmed hat with a chin strap (so it doesn’t blow off the moving jeep).

  • Sunscreen & Lip Balm: The African sun at the equator is incredibly strong.

  • Insect Repellent: Especially for evening sundowners
